Dune by: Frank Herbert
By: Clarissa Sauter
Dune by Frank Herbert is a novel set on the futuristic planet of Arrakis, and centers on the patrician Atreides’ family as they struggle to maintain their power after being relocated to another planet by their emperor. It can be a bit slow at times, but the reader can always expect another plot twist around the corner.
Herbert's world is described in vivid detail, which more often than not becomes mundane at long stretches. Character's motivations are often unclear, and the reader may find that he or she knows a plot twist long before they occur. However, Herbert's masterful familiarization of a world so alien and numerous characters makes it a worthwhile read for all ages.
